Saint Martin / St. Maarten is an island in the northeast Caribbean that is half French and half Dutch. It is one of the smallest sea islands divided between two nations, a division dating to 1648. Collectively, the two territories are known as St-Martin / St Maarten.
We had a time share in St. Maarten and have been there two times. We stayed at the Royal Palm Beach Resort and I would love to go back someday. It was very hot and humid, but the water was great. Besides swimming and sightseeing, we did a few fun things in the area. However, I think the most enjoyable thing was the Butterfly Farm. It is an incredible place. They have hundreds of exotic butterflies from all around the world. My favorites are the iridescent beautiful Blue Morpho butterflies from the rainforests of South America. They are absolutely beautiful. If you are ever in the area, I would say this is a must see.
Another fun thing we did was dinner at Cheri’s Café. This place is so fun and the food was good. A lot of time you get one or the other, lol. It is a lively and exciting nightspot venue for tourists and locals alike. We have made a point to go there each time we were in St. Maarten. The prices are reasonable and the entertainment is great. It is different every time.
There are a lot of beautiful beaches and water activities. The one beach that did stick out was Diva Beach. It was great and we were actually able to see the RMS Queen Mary 2 cruise ship on its maiden voyage in 2004. It is huge and it was cool to see it before it even made it to Florida.
Like I said, we spent a lot of time swimming and driving around doing sightseeing. One day we went up to Pic Paradis The whole area was really beautiful even though it was really humid. We would love to go again someday anyway.
